Figure Food presented by Karin Campbell, Phil Willson Curator of Contemporary Art

Philip Pearlstein (American, born 1924), Kiddie Car-Plane, Airplane and Models, 1990, oil on canvas, Gift of Mr. R. Crosby Kemper, Jr., 1999.51

As a leader in the 1960s revival of American figure painting, Pearlstein treats a traditional subject with non-traditional informality. His nudes are as objective and unemotional as the toys, props, and patterned rugs surrounding them. Radically cropped, unexpectedly positioned, and severely thrust in all directions, Pearlstein’s figures create an extraordinary structure, which serves as the real "subject" of the painting.

For the not-so-figure-conscious, the afternoon’s hearty lunch features raspberry balsamic chicken with quinoa and grilled asparagus, and chocolate ganache torte for dessert.

Joslyn's Adult programs are generously supported by Gilbert M. and Martha H. Hitchcock Foundation, Holland Foundation, Peter Kiewit Foundation, Omaha Steaks, Fred and Eve Simon Charitable Foundation, Streck.
