July 16 loom Weaves Joslyn
2 PM to midnight

To help celebrate the special exhibition Sheila Hicks: Material Voices, loom and Joslyn pair up once again to bring the vibrant multicultural festival back to the garden!

Featuring live music, dance forms from a variety of cultures, live art, yoga, face painting, arts & craft activities and educational programs, all ending off with a big dance party in the garden. In the event of rain, all programming will move indoors.

Program
Loom’s family-friendly indoor-outdoor event has traditionally brought in a wide spectrum of artists and performers, as well as a wide cross section of people, weaving together the diversity that lives within Omaha. This year performances include Edem Soul Music, Emily Ward, Mesonjixx, Mula-B, Las Cecilias Mariachi, Brent Crampton, plus tango, salsa, swing & break dancing groups. Guided tour of Sheila Hicks: Material Voices begins at 6 pm in the atrium.

Revelers will have an opportunity to create a colorful weaving for INTERTWINE, a community project inspired by Sheila Hicks: Material Voices. Help us fill Joslyn’s community gallery space with your visual voice. Complete your project during loom Weaves Joslyn or go to click here for a downloadable project guide!

Admission
The event is free and open to the public (special pricing applies to Sheila Hicks: Material Voices; see below). Food may be purchased outside at Joslyn's grill 4 - 9 pm and picnic baskets are welcome. Cash bar available throughout the event; please, no outside alcohol.

History
For a decade loom has manifested as a dance event where people of many colors, orientations and ages gathered in a peaceful assembly. From its original home of España Tapas Bar in Benson, to various one-offs at institutions such as Bemis Center & Love's Jazz & Art Center, loom has served as a positive social medium for bringing people together. In 2011 loom moved into House of Loom — a lounge & nightclub concept with a focus on music and dance.
