May 1 Ballet Nebraska Presents Momentum
Program begins at 7:30 PM

Ballet Nebraska, in partnership with Joslyn Art Museum, presents Momentum, celebrating the special exhibition, American Moderns.

Momentum V: International Masters, Ballet Nebraska’s annual mixed-repertory program is a sparkling mix of short ballets in a wide range of styles. Along with several original works, the fifth anniversary presentation of Momentum on Friday, May 1, at 7:30 pm features International Masters, a portfolio of brilliant dance spanning centuries and styles: Marius Petipa’s dazzling 19th century classic ballet, Paquita; 20th century legend George Balanchine’s masterful Valse-Fantaisie; and On My Mother’s Side, a modern-dance classic by groundbreaking choreographer and Nebraska native, Charles Weidman.

Matthew Carter shows off a signature move from Charles Weidman's On My Mother's Side, one of the works that will be seen on Ballet Nebraska's Momentum V: International Masters. Weidman, a modern-dance innovator and Nebraska native, based his work on vignettes from the lives of his own relatives and ancestors. Ballet Nebraska artistic director Erika Overturff calls it "quirky, charming, and utterly original."
