Artist Karl Bodmer accompanied German Prince Maximilian on an expedition up the Missouri River in 1833, spending the winter of 1833-34 at Fort Clark, the American Fur Company outpost in present-day North Dakota. This print is a photographic reproduction of an original painting on display at Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, Nebraska.
