Heart Scarabs
February 18, March 3
The ancient Egyptian heart scarab was a protective amulet (charm) made
in the form of a beetle and placed over the heart of the dead. Inscribed
with a spell, the scarab urged the heart not to speak out against the
deceased’s spirit during judgment. Appeal to the heart! Stop by and make your own special Saturday morning heart scarab.
Canopic Jars
March 17, 31
Ancient Egyptians took great care in preparing for the afterlife. Every
object and ritual ensured an individual would survive into the next
world and “live forever.” Canopic jars were part of this ritual, placed
in the tombs to protect the internal organs for the afterlife.
Got something you can’t live without?
Come make your own canopic jar and preserve a part of yourself for eternity.
Join us every other Saturday from 10 am–noon for a self-guided art project at Joslyn!
