October 17 Art Encounters
Legacy: Emily Fisher Landau Collection
10:30–11:30 am
Third Thursday Art Encounters
offers guided tours of Joslyn's collections and special exhibitions on the third Thursday of each month, beginning at 10:30 am. Designed to appeal to all art lovers, from the well-seasoned to the amateur, these monthly programs are a great way to learn about art with others.

Organized by the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Legacy features a selection of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper from a historic gift pledged to the Whitney in 2010 by Emily Fisher Landau, a preeminent collector of postwar art in the United States. Legacy reflects primary themes that have driven America artists since the 1960s — including the relevance of representation in the aftermath of Minimalism; gender and racial politics; and the “culture wars” of the 1980s.

The exhibition features work by some of the most influential artists of the twentieth century, among them Jasper Johns (pictured), Andy Warhol, Glenn Ligon, Sherrie Levine, Agnes Martin, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, John Baldessari, Kiki Smith, and Ed Ruscha.

Presented in partnership with The Nebraska Medical Center's Health & Wellness Club, Art Encounters is free to all. Reservations are not required.  For program details please contact Joslyn's Director of Adult Programs at (402) 661-3862 or sseverson@joslyn.org.
