Joslyn Art Museum in partnership with Creighton University presents stimulating lectures by Creighton faculty in Joslyn’s Abbott Lecture Hall on select Sundays at 2:00 pm. CU at Joslyn, offered in collaboration with Creighton’s University College, presents a variety of topics and interdisciplinary perspectives on Joslyn’s collections or exhibitions. CU at Joslyn is free with regular museum admission for general public, and always free for Museum members and Creighton students and faculty with ID.

Ekphrastic Poetry: A Reading and Informal Discussion presented by Susan Aizenberg, Associate Professor, Department of English, Creighton University

Painting and poetry are sister arts and there has always been a deep connection between them. In this informal presentation, which will include a viewing of paintings from Joslyn’s collection and virtual libraries, poet Susan Aizenberg will read from her own work, and the work of other poets, poems inspired by paintings and the lives of the painters who made them, including Chase, Hopper, Matisse, van Gogh, and contemporary painters Michael David and Jim Sajovic. 

Winner of the 2003 Distinguished Artist Award from the Nebraska Arts Council, poet SUSAN AIZENBERG's poems have appeared or are forthcoming in many journals, including Prairie Schooner, AGNI, Blackbird, The Journal, Laurel Review, Passages North, Third Coast, Chelsea, ONTHEBUS, and the Prague Review. Her first collection, Peru, appeared in Graywolf's Take Three: Agni New Poets Series, which as been chosen as a "Recommended Book" by both the Poetry and Small Press editors of, and as a "Noted Book" by American Poet. She is the author more recently of Muse (Southern Illinois UP), a book-length collection that won the Nebraska Book Award for Poetry and the Larry Levis Prize for 2003. She's a two-time winner of the Individual Artist's Fellowship from the Nebraska Arts Council (1997, 2000). And she is a 2010 winner of The Glenna Luschei Prairie Schooner Award. She holds the MFA in creative writing from Vermont College and has taught at the University of Nebraska — Omaha. She served as Poetry Editor of The Nebraska Review for ten years and later as Contributing Editor. She is an associate professor of English and Creative Writing at Creighton University. With Erin Belieu, she is the editor of The Extraordinary Tide: New Poetry by American Women (Columbia University Press, 2001).
