About Dennis Wattier

I have been working in wood since the late '60s as I studied toward a teaching degree in Industrial Technology from Kearney State College (now the University of Nebraska at Kearney). During that time I became interested in wood turning, mainly solid wood pieces, which were either incorporated into furniture, or later became functional/decorative vessels. I continued to work with wood during my free time as I pursued a teaching career with Omaha Public Schools. After 30 years of teaching, I retired in 2003. At that point, my part-time interest became a full time endeavor, and I used the artistic knowledge gained from traveling extensively over the years as I visited numerous museums and galleries around the country and abroad. I have developed my own unique style and I'm now creating intricately designed vessels and bowls.

I work exclusively with hard woods. The designs created are developed through the process of lamination, which involves many hours of planning and gluing individual pieces to form the design. Then the form is turned on a wood lathe and undergoes a finishing process to obtain its luster.
