Description

This collection of prints features six works by Swiss artist Karl Bodmer who accompanied German Prince Maximilian on an expedition up the Missouri River in 1833, spending the winter of 1833-34 at Fork Clark, the American Fur Company outpost in present-day North Dakota.  The prints are each 11" x 14" and reading to be framed.  They include:  Mato-Tope, a Mandan Chief, Sih-Chida and Machsi-Karehde, Mato-Tope Adorned with the Insignia of His Warlike Deeds, Abdih-Hiddisch, a Minatarre Chief, Pehriska-Ruhpa, and Pehriska-Ruhpa in the Costume of the Dog Dance.  Original Bodmer paintings and sketches are displayed at the Joslyn Art Museum, Omaha, Nebraska.
