What is the exhibition all about?
The possibility of life after death was a central cultural belief throughout thousands of years of Egyptian civilization. Regarding death as an enemy to be defeated through both luck and careful preparation, ancient Egyptians developed complex strategies to assure survival in the afterlife.
To Live Forever: Egyptian Treasures from the Brooklyn Museum takes a fresh look at these methods with emphasis on the mummification process, the contents of a tomb, and rituals performed to support the
deceased's journey to the netherworld.
You will see elaborate stone and painted wood sarcophagi, gold, statues, jewelry, shrouds, mummification tools, and more. Some exhibition objects are highlighted on this microsite with photos, videos, and descriptions. On these pages you will also find details for planning your visit, registering for the many events and programs surrounding the exhibition, and details about our OnCell mobile exhibition tour.
Enjoy your virtual visit, and we will see you in the galleries!
