Omaha Under Pressure

November 2012
The artist Robert Rauschenberg, said, “The artist’s job is to be a witness to his time in history.”

Hilary George, Art Teacher (pictured above, left, standing), and Cathy Nelson, Teacher Leader, from Blackburn Alternative Program, accompanied their students on a trip to view Under Pressure: Contemporary Prints from the Collections of Jordan D. Schnitzer and His Family Foundation at Joslyn in fall 2012.

Afterwards, the students were asked to be witnesses to their own history and use their art as another vehicle for expression. Teachers listened to the students describe their artworks and experience. They also had the opportunity to explore their own artistic voice through a hands-on activity.
