Street Art: Hiero-graffiti

Many ancient Egyptian hallways, pillars, and facades were covered with
highly decorated and brightly painted designs. This class will make
connections between ancient wall paintings and contemporary street art.
Learn to use spray paint, markers, and stencils to help create a public
work of art that combines ancient imagery with modern expressions and
ideas.

Egyptian Relief Sculpture
Thursday: April 5, 12, 19, 26, May 3, 10; 6-8 pm
Joslyn Members: $87; General Public $98
Students will explore ancient Egyptian relief sculptures in the
galleries for inspiration and learn basic sculpture-carving techniques.
You’ll design and pour a plaster tablet to carve in low-relief. Each
piece will be carved using simple tools and finished with paint, using a
palette of Egyptian colors, and varnished with antiquing shellac.

Bead Chains
Saturday, March 10, 1-4 pm
Joslyn Members: $25; General Public $30
This class for all levels will teach students to use wire, eye pins, and
beads to make a chain that can be used in bracelets, anklets, or
earrings. Each student will create a set of earrings with a forged
clasp.

Winged Scarab Bracelet: Peyote Stitch
Saturdays: March 17, 24; 1-4 pm
Joslyn Members: $55; General Public $65
Knowledge of peyote stitch is prerequisite for this intermediate to
advanced class that will teach odd-count peyote stitch and how to follow
a bead graph to create a design inspired by ancient Egypt.
