Working with individuals who make up Joslyn Art Museum’s 3300-plus membership base is a great job. I feel lucky every day that I have the opportunity to learn why members join the museum. Membership support is essential to the success of the Museum. Membership gifts help support not only our outstanding educational and outreach programming but also the exceptional collections and exhibitions. Most importantly, the generous support of our members help make it possible for the Museum to remain free and open to the public.
Longtime members and supporters, Kevin, Heather and Maxfield Vanourney recently explained their personal reasons for supporting the Museum. “We’re avid longtime members and supporters of Joslyn Art Museum, because we love the experiences we have when we look at art. We think the museum’s sculpture gardens, buildings, and contents are spiritual, transcendent, and relaxing. There are so many ways to see and depict life and emotions. We regularly visit Joslyn at least once a month. Our son has been going with us most of the time, ever since he was born. Now that he can walk and talk, we sometimes let him be the leader and the docent. Sometimes he pushes us to see the art in different ways, and sometimes we encourage him to see things in new ways. Every trip to the museum is a different experience. We either see new things or see things in a different way. Traveling exhibitions and special shows are something that we always look forward to, because that means we get to see new things. Our membership covers our admission to see those special exhibits, however many times we want to see them. As members that get so much enjoyment out of Joslyn Art Museum, we want to help support the greater public to be able to continue to enjoy it, too. Even though general admission is free for the public to see the permanent galleries, we are well aware that operating a museum isn’t free.”
Thanks to all of our generous and supportive Members. We couldn’t make an impact without you and we are so very glad we get to partner with you to create an organization that is essential to connecting our community with art.
