Endowment
Sarah Joslyn gave this incredible gift of the Museum to the community 75 years ago and it is important to ensure that it continues to thrive for the next 75 years. It was Sarah Joslyn who upon presenting the Museum to the community said "if there is any good in it let it go on."
Joslyn Art Museum Foundation has undertaken an ambitious plan to significantly increase its endowment from its current value of $28 million to $40 million over the next ten years through cash and estate gifts. As identified through Joslyn's strategic planning process, a larger endowment will lessen the Museum's dependency on annual fundraising, increase funds available for art acquisition, sustain a conservation and building maintenance program, and support capital improvements. Increasing the endowment provides more income for core budget areas and greater financial stability and growth, allowing Joslyn to implement its long-range plans.
Every year Joslyn receives gifts to the endowment of all amounts from donors who wish to help secure the Museum's financial future and ensure the permanency of the programs and collections to serve, enrich and engage visitors. The following endowment opportunities have been established:
Joslyn General Endowment Fund- The income from this Fund is used to support Joslyn's annual programs and operations. Increasing the value of this endowment fund will lessen the Museum's dependency on annual fundraising.
Art Endowment Fund- This Fund includes contributions from various estates and gifts. The Principal is restricted to the acquisition of art works for Joslyn, and the income is transferred to the Art Purchase Fund.
Art Purchase Fund- This Fund provides the means for the Committee on the Collection and the Board of Governors to purchase works of art for the Museum.
Education Endowment Fund- The income from this Fund is used to support the Criss Center for Education. All educational programming delivered by the Museum comes from the staff of the Criss Center for Education.
Durham Center for Western Studies Endowment Fund- The income from this Fund is used to support the Durham Center for Western Studies.
